Greetings To All,It is our extreme pleasure to invite you all to the Celebration of the Majestic Kingdom of Avalon's Five Glorious Years of Existence....Saturnalia V. There is sooooo much information regarding this event, so without the usual written banter, I will proceed acccordingly....
DATE: Saturday, January 13
TIME: 10 am to ~10 pm
PLACE: Home of Vedras, Boudica, and Antillis, 279 Teconic St,
Ronkonkoma, NY 11779. Due to a steep rise in the cost of the hall
rental and a projection of a smaller turnout then last year, we had to
make the unfortunate decision to move the event to a private residence.
We greatly thank those above for providing us with such an accomodating
option.
DIRECTIONS: TBA in 2nd email
COST: $15 a person which includes dayboard and feast.
RESERVATIONS: You can either send me the money (email me for info) or
you can send in your reservation and pay at the troll upon arrival.
The condition here is that if you send in an unpaid reservation you are
responsible for that amount, whether or not you actually attend the
event...this is due to the fact that money has already been spent on
your behalf as per your request for reservation. CASH ONLY please.
Also, please understand that if we have to make change for too many
people, we may have to give it to you at another time. IMPORTANT: When
sending me your reservations, please indicate, if you wish, which
person(s) you wish to sit with as we will be creating a pre-planned
seating chart. We will do our best to accomodate you wishes.
TROLL: You MUST check in at the Troll table upon arrival. It will be
run by Matriarch Sif and it will be located right inside the front door
until 2 pm. After 2, Sif will act as a 'roving' troll, for which you
MUST find her to check in.
DAYBOARD: This goes out at 11:30 am. It will likely consist of the
following items...cheezes, pepperoni, kabasi, veggies and dip, pickles,
olives, bread, honey butter, lemonade and ice tea.
FEAST: This will be a five remove dinner consisting of the folling
courses:
-Soup (TBD), bread, butter, honey butter
-Salad with various dressings
-Pasta in a marinara sauce
-Chicken cutlets, string beans, and mashed potatoes
-Chocolate Fountain Fondue
FEAST GEAR: BYO feast gear. This can range from an elaborate medieval
table setting to a simple mundate plate/bowl/cup/utensils from your
kitchen. Please feel free to bring as many candles and candlabras as
you wish...the more the better! Also, if you have any self-standing
banners, please bring them.
CHAIRS: BYO chair for the feast, preferably a metal folding chair as
camp chairs, while ok, are too short for sitting at a feast table.
TABLES: IF YOU HAVE A TABLE AND CAN BRING IT TO THE EVENT BEFORE IT
STARTS, PLEASE CONTACT ME. I WILL ALSO NEED THE EXACT SIZE OF THE
TABLE FOR PLANNING PURPOSES. THANK YOU!!!
ALCOHOL: This is an Avalon event, and as per our laws, the consumption
of alcohol is prohibited, however....
POST REVEL: There is a post-revel, starting immediately after court, at
the same site. As this post-revel is NOT part of the Avalon-sponsored
event, the spirits are free to flow with wild abandon. However, if you
choose to imbibe and have no designated driver, you MUST stay the
night, which leads to the availability of the following....
CRASH SPACE: Everyone is welcome to stay the night. All we can
guarentee is floor space and heat! It also will likely be noisy. BYO
blankets, pillows, cots, etc. We will likely do breakfast at a diner
the next morning.
PETS: The site has 2 cats and a dog. Some may have allergy issues.
The upside is that those that live there have yet to furnish the rooms that
we will be in, thus there is less surface for fur to reside. All the
more reason to BYO chair!
SMOKING: All smoking must be done outside on the deck. An urn will be
set up for disposal. Those who actually live at this site may do as
they please, for it IS there home and I am eternaly greatful that they
opened their doors for this event.
FIGHTERS: You MUST have a helm, gorget (neck protection), and
full-fingered gloves. All shields must be completely foam padded
around the edges. All armor, shields, and weapons must be inspected prior to
use. Please bring as many weapons and shields as you can, as it will
best serve our Wheel of Doom tourney.
FIGHTING TOURNAMENTS: We will be having the following tournaments....
-Grand Melee Battle
-Wheel of Doom (hopefully in a maze!)
-Bearpit Tournament
-CHAOS Tournament
GRAND CHAMPIONS: The best overall female fighter of the day will be
declared the Iron Rose Champion and receive a metal rose and a choker
medallion. The overall fighter of the day will be declared the
Saturnalia Champion and receive a beautiful medallion!
EVENT ACTIVITIES: We will have plenty of non-fighting activites and
contests to partake in as follows...
-Rat King Garb Contest: This idea, born in the East Kingdom, is a
contest whereupon you must created an outfit, be it garb, armor, etc,
for a ~2' rubber rat (the SCA used a stuffed fox). You have until
court
to create the outfit. A pile of scrap material, needles, thread will
be
available, but you are incouraged to bring your own materials to the
event. A stapler may work well for speedy garb creation.
-Chess Competetion: My Royal Chess Collection will be on display for
all
to play upon. People can play at random, as there is no set time for
this. Anyone who plays, will receive a score, 2 pts for a win and 1 pt
for a loss. Play will end prior to the feast, and the one with the
most
points wins.
-Art Competition: The theme for this, used before with a great artistic
response, is to draw a picture of a fight between a character from a
movie, tv show, comic, book, play, history, etc. that is personna
relevant to Avalon (ie their personna 'could' be in Avalon with
resonable explanation...ex. Conan, King Arthur, Hamlet, Dr. Who, the
Time Bandits, etc., however, 'Jay Leno' having fallen into a time
portal, for example, is not an option) VS someone that is either a
member of the Alliance (Avalon, Midgaard, DragonWynde), the Empire,
Newgarrd, the Brood, or anyone from the local medieval scene who either
has, could, or would reasonable be expected to attend an Alliance
event.
-Writing Competition: The Saga of Roland begins at Saturnalia V! A
primary chapter (~1 page) will start the tale of Squire Rolund. All
may step up and write the second 'chapter' taking up where the first
chapter left off, with the next writer penning the 'third' chapter, and so on.
Your entry may be comedic, dramic, horrific, romantic, poetic, etc, so
long as it links to the previous chapter. The best chapter of the day
shall be declared the winner. This Saga shall continue indefinetly and
be available at ALL future events for all to read and hopefully, to
write!!!
-Gladiatorial Tarantulas: Hard to explain!!!
FEAST ACTIVITES: During the feast we shall have the following
activites:
-Arm Wrestling Competiton: lords & ladies
-Bardic Competion: One song of choice, be it period, filk, bawdy,
serious, etc. so long as you have never used said song in a previous
Alliance bardic competition.
-Juggling Jester Competition: See who can juggle three balls longer
then the rest!
COOKIE COMPETITION: We are having a baking competition. The item for
this contest is the COOKIE. Bake at home and bring with you your
entry(s). It will be judged on appearance and taste. There are no
restrictions other then in must be Avalon/medieval relevant. (yea,
this is very apples&oranges-type stuff, but geez, it's a cookie!). We have
a little, yet very special prize for the winner!

THE EVENT SCHEDULE: The following is the schedule for Saturnalia V. It
is subject to change....hopefully not! :-)

AVALON ONLY: The tournaments held today will have relevance for those
who are members of Avalon. The melee will serve as our Ducal Third
Round. Therefor all rules apply, including being there on time, ready
to fight (this also means that you have already checked in to troll).
The Wheel of Doom will serve as our County Crown tourney, with the
Avalonian advancing the farthest winning the crown. King's Champion and
Chivalric Champion will also occure later in the day.
